It's also very deadly. So why would anyone, unarmed, want to be so close to one in the wild that it might try to kill you? Well if you are conservation biologist named Ryan Bolton, you would do it to get some good video! Ryan says he wants to raise awareness and appreciation for earth's wildlife but came to the conclusion that boring scientific essays will not do it. So, he taught himself photography and started taking pictures of animals from all over the world. (see his photos on his website here http://www.artofconservation.ca ) It was in his pursuit of documenting wildlife that he came across a giant Green Anaconda. "I was in Peru," he told me. "I heard from the locals that there was a palm swamp where green anacondas had been spotted. So I spent everyday for two weeks going out to this palm swamp paddling around in this dug out canoe that was half full of water." One day when Ryan was out paddling around in the palm swamp, he saw something through the jungle. It was a 20 foot Green Anaconda. Ryan took a few pictures from a distance but the snake moved into the water. Ryan didn't want to test his luck, so he headed back to where he was staying thinking that would be the end of it. But no sooner did he get to his room than he started planning his return. He wanted better pictures and knew this was probably the only chance he would ever have. A few days later, Ryan returned to where he had seen the giant snake and once again, he found it sunning itself on top of some vegetation. The snake started moving towards him, but he claims he didn't feel frightened. In fact, he moved closer. "I was more worried that it would go away before I got my video," Ryan said during a skype interview. He says he knew he was risking his life but thinks it was worth it. "Things could have gone wrong very easily. I was in it's territory and I was moving around. It could have elicited a feeding response." FACTOID The Green Anaconda is the biggest snake in the world with unverified measurements of about 34 feet, although the longest confirmed specimens measure 25 feet long and weigh 550 pounds. Numerous claims of huge anacondas 50-60 feet long also exist but these have never been confirmed. The green anaconda is olive green with black spots. The green anaconda is a good swimmer and on land it moves slowly. The green anaconda spends hours of the day resting on branches or in wet ponds. When the night comes the green anaconda begins to hunt its prey, but it never hunts in flock. The green anaconda is dangerous because of it will attempt to eat almost anything, including humans. Giant Snake Causes Major Accident
Giant snake! Major accident involving a pregnant green anaconda. The giant snake was the slithering in the middle of a highway in Brazil when a car smash into it causing a multiple car pile up and a major accident. Unfortunately for these Brazilian drivers, there was nothing they could do. The 25 foot long green anaconda was the cause of a multiple car pile up leaving many people injured and 2 dead. Not only was the giant snake completely destroyed but she was also pregnent with an estimated 70 baby snakes which also died. While most snakes do lay eggs, the Green Anaconda is one of the rare species that actually give birth to live young. Once pregnant, the female will produce eggs in inside of her body as they take about 8-12 weeks to develop and hatch while remaining inside the mother's body before she gives birth. As many as 80 tiny snakes will be born averaging lengths of 1 to 2 feet. Green Anacondas are the heaviest and largest snakes in the world. Research has shown that these snake can grow to be more than 29 feet long and weigh more than 550 pounds, found throughout South America. While there have been reports of these anacondas reaching unheard of sizes of 50 and 100 feet, no snake has been official captured and recorded over 30 feet. Since the early 1900's the Wildlife Conservation Society has offered a $50,000 cash reward for the delivery of any live snake of over 30 feet, however, that reward is still up for grabs. Can a man be eaten by a giant snake? Are these man-eating snake tales real or false? Reticulated pythons and green anacondas are huge indeed, growing over 20 feet long, but most of the stories you hear of humans being swallowed and eaten by massive snakes are urban legends. Recently there have been many stories about people being swallowed by giant man eating snakes however many of these tales often lack any real credibility. The most popular story going around is about a security guard being found inside of a giant 49-ft python. This claim is false. First you see this picture which is actually of an African Rock Python that was caught in an electric fence in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Someone photo-shopped a security guard into this picture. In addition to this story, a picture of a 49-ft python in Indonesia is shown, which was captured and put into captivity. But after further research, it is revealed the this snake is actually less than 32 feet. One story, however, that actually does have real credibility is that of the 10 year old South African boy who was attacked, swallowed and eaten by a very large African Rock Python in 2002. There are multiple links backing up this incident below. The basis of the story was there were several kids playing in a field outside of Durban when one of them was attacked by a giant snake. The other kids climbed in a tree to hid while for 3 hours they watched as the 10 year old boy was devoured and eaten by the big snake. Once the snake finished eating the boy, it slithered away and the kids were able to escape and find help. And finally, there was another case documented where a Brazilian man arrived just in time to see a giant python swallowing his grandson head first and was able to save him. Man Saves Boy From Giant Snake Attack
Giant snake attacks boy who is almost eaten alive before grandfather saves him. The green anaconda is the largest snake species in the world reaching lengths up to 25 feet long and weighing over 300 pounds. When Mateus came face to face with one in the wild, he was lucky to escape with his life. The year was 2002, about 250 miles northwest of Sao Paulo on a ranch near the city of Cosmorama. The boy and his friend were playing by a creek bed where a giant 16 foot snake lay hidden just underneath the water's surface waiting for an animal to approach for a drink. This time the snakes next victim wasn't an animal, but an 8 year old boy named Mateus. The massive anaconda attacked the boy knocking him to the ground as it's large jaws bit down on the boy's neck and shoulder. His friend stood frozen in horror as he watched the giant snake quickly wrapped itself around Matues, squeezing the life out of him. Terrified, the friend sprinted off to find Mataues's grandfather who reached the scene shortly after to find his grandson being swallowed head first by a man-eating anaconda. 66 year old Grandfather, Joaquim Pereira, began to beat and stab the snake merciless with a rock in one hand and a small machete in the other. The giant snake's skin was like armor as it took Joaquim nearly 30 minutes to inflict enough damage to free his grandson from the snake's death grip. The kid was rushed to the hospital and needed 21 stitches in his chest but no bones were broken and the boy lived to tell the this amazing tale.
